Mallard 3rd July anniversary

    today is the day that Mallard broke the world steam speed record in 1938.

    Oh, that documentary brings back so many memories!! Still got the old VHS of it. Good times

    yeah same here,got all the channel 4 ones from that time.
    theres another one from that time, from the channel 4 going loco series in 1990 called 4468 the record breaker, presented by Richard Whitley, no ones uploaded that on the internet yet I think.
    on it we see Mallard buffering up at Doncaster, what I didnt know is the train was first hauled by 89001.

    I remember the 'Going Loco' series from all those years ago. Shame that my father didn't keep them aside for me instead of recording over them.

    I taped over some of my dads ones years back, BBC great railway journeys which he never forgave me for :)

    luckily now theyre all on youtube

    Still got the video recording of the Going Loco series. Mallard's record run was only one small part of the series. The sound seems to going at bit on it these days though.

    sadly the Mallard pub in Little Bytham is no longer a pub :(

    But The Mallard at Worksop station still is :)
