A subsidiary of Russia’s largest rolling stock manufacturer has won an order to supply more than 800 metro cars to Moscow’s subway system.

Metrovagonmash, which is owned by Transmashholding, will build 832 cars for the Moscow Metro between now and 2017.

The contract includes a 30-year maintenance agreement.

Moscow Metro has already indicated that it plans to procure around 3,000 cars between now and 2020. The Moscow City Government will fund the new Metrovagonmash fleet.

Once complete, the new cars will go into operation on the Serpukhovsko – Timiriazev and Kalinin – Solntsevskaya lines.
