Nope, I'm rather stumped by this! Is there a grounded body somewhere? Given that most sleepers never move, apart from their final trip to the scrapyard, a spare pair of bogies for one seems like quite a luxury! If there was a 12-wheeled restaurant car body around I could understand an interest, but there isn't..................... is there?

Two photo’s from today at Ropley showing the new track work. There was talk about twenty years ago about extending the head shunt at Ropley and also to put another siding next to the head shunt by digging out the bank and running both lines up to Ropley down home.

Well it would be a very interesting development because, according to the carriage survey, they don't currently have any 12W coaches - to my mind its a bit odd to acquire spares for something you don't possess! It'll be initeresting to see what they're intended for!

    Time for another update.

92212 9F NOW FACES NORTH!!!! it returned from minehead facing north. Which somehow makes it look more impressive. Serious.

76017 was in the wheeldrop shed, it has been split from the tender and work is ongoing, likely to have wheels out soon.
73096 has had cylinder studs ground and other work continues.
Douglas is still having motion reassemled.
31806's boiler is in its final stages, week after next it comes outside to be tested. Welding and replacing platework happening today in boilershop.

Thomas and 30075 (with faces on) are doing rides at Ropley, 30075 was with 3 waggons and a break van (toad). Thomas had a TSO and a break van. The black 08 is masquerading as diesel and is doing cab rides at Alresford.

5224 replacing 30075 tomorrow, forgot to ask why. 34007 was just being tinkered with before being finally let back into full service.

850 and 92212 on service trains.

TSO in paintshop paint stripped from roof. U boat tender in black coating now.

2nd rail now in place into workshops.

Thomas comes under for overhaul after the august thomas week, hoped to be done in 8 months. 60019 to return for its last full month of service trains at the end of may.

Thomas week is very quiet, not hugely profitable. :-(

Thats all for this week, more soon....hopefully

Glad to see the current news of activities of the Ropley workshop staff.
Surprised at the apparent poor turn out for your "Thomas" event. Is "Thomas" losing his 'appeal' I wonder? Perhaps there is nothing on 'the box' at the moment to generate children's interests.
The "Chuggington" line of merchandise seems to be proving almost as popular as "Thomas" in our newly refurbished shop at Swanage Station. Shame there's no standard gauge "Chuggington" locos for hire - although they'll probably be as expensive as "Thomas" and friends!

Well the day I was there was not busy, but was making money. I haven't seen the figures so I can't comment, and I doubt "LN850" has seen them either.
I think Thomas is losing his appeal, we need to go back to the racing (but find a safer way of doing it), or something similar.
There are loco's for Chuggington but I can only think of one - the engine that looks like a cl.45.

At last years AGM it was said that the Thomas event was quiet last year also. Colin Chambers did say they were going to look at alternative events.

Ralph, there is no need to take the attitude you took about me not seeing the visitor figures. i dont just come up with these theories, this information comes from most people in and around the railway.

The lack of visitors to thomas, is seen by some because the licsensees dont allow things like races and tug of war. Days are too restricted, but yes it is making money. Just not as much as hoped.

The weather wasn’t very good at the start of this years Thomas event so I take that had a big impacted on visitor numbers. With the weather looking good for this coming weekend maybe the visitor numbers will increase.

I didn't mean any offence - just that the figures are often different to how people experience it. For instance, during Ivor I thought the visitor numbers were healthy, but they weren't.

What weekdays does the waggons team operate at M&4M??? I can make Saturdays, but as I am often free on a weekday it may be easier then.

Every Saturday I think. Send Chris Willis (coalwagon) e mail or PM Chris. I'm sure he will be able to help you.
