Looking on the MHR web site today. Diesel locos are again covering for steam locos due to the hot weather.

    Hi Chris,

I hope to get a few photos over the weekend. Reading WNXX tonight all steam services have been suspended until further notice. It's all a bit ironic we can't use steam at this point in time and the BB are desperate for steam locos.

The question is how long before the steam ban becomes more around the country everything is so dry now one spark and it will be on fire. The preservation movement has to act correctly as the mid hants has done. We don't need large scale fires there is no rain forcaste for the midlands for over a week.

Preserved railways can always have fire patrols, carry fire beaters, stop in section to deal with it etc...
    This can't happen on NR.
MHR and NVR, amongst others, operate in countrysides with considerable farming.. So Its the sensible thing to do.
Urban lines or lines with unused farmland, tree scrub etc are less at risk.

37901 has arrived at the MHR today to help cover with 37905 and 50027. Latest info on WNXX is 37901 will be working Saturday nights Belle. A shame I won't be around to photograph 901 on Saturday evening.

I'm not surprised the MHR are wanting to restart steam services this coming weekend with the start of the summer Thomas event and we had a few days of rain to boot.
