The Santa specials start on Saturday (where the hell has that year gone?) but the loco roster on the MHR site is rather blank at the moment. Any ideas what loco's (Steam on one end, diesel on the other) will be on the first trains from Alresford this Saturday?

31806 on her own yesterday, with Santas and also the Belle, with 850 and the green 37 on the RAT last night. 92212's tender still in the cattledock at Alresford with no sign of the loco itself!

Last I heard (about a week ago), the loco was equally forlorn in the tram road at Sheffield Park, waiting for a lorry! Not sure what the hold up is - we haven't taken her hostage, honest!

Thanks for the info. folks. Didn't get time to come down and photograph the services in the end but will hopefully come down another weekend before I am travelling on the Dining train on the 21st.

This weekend was tender first running. Anyone know which way round 92212 will be facing. I haven't seen which way round the tender is which should give a clue unless the tender gets turned when the loco arrives.

    Cheers

I understand that "the powers that be" intend 92212 to be facing out of Alton...I would be happy to be proved wrong.

Did I read on here somewhere that 45379 is off on loan somewhere? Looks like most of the Santas will be tender first out of Alresford (925, 850 92212, 31806 all facing that way) I am working most days up to Christmas, amd also on boxing day so chances of photting severely reduced this year!

And Wadebridge is off to the Churnet Valley in the New Year for a spell!!

As for 92212, I had a funny feeling that would be the case......... balancing out the Tyre wear perchance?.................... but if that's the case what about 850 & 925?....

Oh Bugger! Was hoping they would use 34007 as she chucks out a good exhaust in the Winter conditions. I should also be visiting the Christmas Leave event after missing it last year due to the poor weather (IIRC it p***ed it down!)

I wonder which loco's will be coming to the MHR next year then if 34007 (CVR) and 31806 (WSR) are off on loan for events?

Looking on the web site. After 1st January there won't be any service trains running until 15th February.

It started a bit earlier where I live so didn't bother heading out. Hoping the weather will be better this year. Got fed up with it last Christmas. Had hoped to do some long walks but it was too damp for my liking!

According to the MHR web site. Saturdays and Sundays trains are now fully book. There are still seats available on Mon 23rd and Tue 24th. Does anyone know how other preserved railways are fairing with their Santa's.

Saw that as well this morning. I am surprised that the 24th still has seats. I thought that would be the most popular day? I know it was when I was a kid and my parents used to bring me down.

We are visiting tonight for the Dining train. Hope the weather gets better and the loco crew have plenty of sand in the boxes. Any ideas what the loco will be tonight?
