The impression I got from the second carriage of the 12.00 departure was that it was standing room only as the TTI's were trying to find seats for passengers just before departure and they could only find two seats. Perhaps they didn't go back to the rear carriage to have a look.
The later trains did indeed have plenty of spaces.

Is this confirmed to be the case? I rode behind it at the low season following COVID, certainly was a different experience!

Will certainly be aiming to get a couple trips behind Dave then!

Well I can't explain why didn't look too hard then, as I said just my group of 4, we had two bays i.e. 8 seats to ourselves, not even a hint of a need to reduce our footprint to one bay, that we could easily have done willingly; rest of coach similar. One of our group did not turn up until 11:55 and found us and sat easily without us having to hold a seat for them.

Perhaps people were buying tickets at the kiosk, doing a 180 degree about face and then expecting to find a seat right in front of them ?

I don't know. I was responding to the post showing progress on Dave's overhaul, hoping that we can enjoy riding behind Dave in the low season.

Hopefully the overhaul is successful and she will return:

I too was in coach 2 on the 1200 - the TTI was trying to find two seats together for a viaually impaired couple, so walking back to the rear may not have been an option.

The "Group booking" was an interesting one. It seems to be an experience company selling blocks of seats, i noticed the sam ecompany had reserved compartments on the Bluebell the week before when I visited. They were selling 6 first class tickets for one round trip on the Watercress service train on Saturday for £129.95. Impressive considering the Watercress doens't actually sell first class!

Mentioning the 12:00 from Alton of which I was one of the window hangers I will relate an incident that played out at the door on the platform side as I was watching the loco run round.
I stress this no way reflects on the MHR but just shows how difficult some passengers can be and this of course could have happened anywhere.
Him (guy at the door): Did you want to get off?
Her (passenger): Is there anything to do here?
Him: No really (true unless you go into the town, or you like SWR 450's)
Her: I thought it went straight back.
Him: Yes it does in 20 minutes
Her: No need to be nasty (said with some venom).

I decided best not to get involved, but I did think I wonder why people accuses passengers in London of never talking to each other. No wonder with incidents like this.

I would agree the back coach was not totally full, the Griddle however looked well rammed with many just standing around. However I got off at MFM and rode the Ivatt for a while where I could sit down without sharing.

Interesting - I looked up the Bluebell package (which does do first class ;) ) from the same company and the pricing is the same as the MHR. Essentially I think you are paying for a bit of space - the company is selling compartments for £129.95 regardless; and depending on your preference, you can split it between 6 or 8 people and get more or less space as you prefer.

A number of people are posting many images on this thread. That's not the problem. It's the fact that they are large resolution and full size resulting in them taking up considerable band width so scrolling is difficult, the thread is slow to load and smaller devices just can't show them.

For your information we believe that this is one reason why the forum 'hangs' at times or crashes.

Rather than us just delete your messages can we ask that if you are in the habit of posting multiple images will you please modify them before doing so. The things you can do are:
    - post links to your own image site if you have one
    - reduce the image size before adding them to NP
    - only post thumbnail images.

    Over to you. Thanks.

I use a free App called Image Size. The advantage is that you can reduce the image to any size you like. The image also fits the page better. (Other Apps are available which do the same thing). My post #5887 will give you an idea of how an image will appear.

Microsoft Office Picture Manager works well for me. I usually take the image down to no more than 1Mb although half that works well enough in most cases.

The recent lineside clearance at Northside Lane is seen to good effect here. 41312 on the 13:00 departure from Alresford

Presumably images hosted on Flickr are okay @Big Al (with the bbcode set to 800x600).
I didn't even know you could directly upload an image to NP (maybe copy/paste?) as there is no obvious option in the toolbar other than the media button...
You might want to speak to the admins at TalkPhotography who also use XenForo as they have implemented a maximum photo size (both pixels and MBs) which prevents people directly loading files to the database which are too large (so it must be possible to implement here).

Next to the “post reply” button is “Upload a file”. These are hosted directly. There is already a limit on photo size which I actually set already but perhaps set it a bit generously!!! Will have to revisit and adjust ;)

You are correct the Flickr ones aren’t really a problem, the same with those hosted elsewhere but linked to on here.

LOL. So there is. I must learn to open my eyes ;)
Though to be honest I'll stick with Flickr...
