As the event doesn't have a thread yet,

The MNR's Steam Gala will be held Fri 24 to Sun 26 June. "Royal Scot" is on the guest list this year. 9466 will also be running following its recent return to traffic. More visiting locos to be announced.

    Another visitor announced...

"We are also delighted that we have secured agreement for 4247 to visit its Summer Steam Gala in June. The heavy freight tank celebrates its centenary this year, and as part of a national tour will be coming to the Heart of Norfolk for the weekend.

The loco will be appearing in an identical livery to 9466, recreating scenes from across the Western Region, where the two classes would have regularly been seen alongside each other. 4247 will work alongside the Royal Scot and 9466 which is already announced."

    From the GCR website:

***Latest news 06.05.16: GWR 42xx Class 2-8-0t No. 4247 will now not feature at the Gala after arriving at GCR and being certified as unfit to run. Obviously, we are very disappointed and our current plan is to replace 4247 with ex LMS 2-8-0 no 48624 ***

Does anyone know what the issue is with 4247? Clearly it's expected back in service for it's MNR visit, looks like a great event!

It won't be at the MNR Gala anymore....

"It is with regret that we have been advised that Great Western Railway, 4247 has had to be withdrawn from traffic, due to boiler issues and as a result, it will no longer feature at the Steam Gala on June 24th – 26th, as previously announced.

We would like to thank the efforts of everyone involved in trying to make this visit possible and we are sorry for any disappointment this announcement will cause. We look forward to welcoming GWR 4247 in the future to the line after overhaul.

In the meantime, we hope we can announce a replacement locomotive soon."

Latest news bulletin from the MNR!

"As you will be aware, the MNR recently received the sad news that the agreed visit of 4247 for our gala in June had been cancelled. The loco has succumbed to minor boiler issues and is therefore unavailable for our event.

This was obviously very unfortunate for all concerned, as we were looking forward to welcoming the locomotive and its owning group to the railway. It also left us without a third locomotive for our event from the 24-26th June.

A frantic series of calls and emails ensued, all of which proved futile. However, on Friday of last week, our friends at the PRCLT agreed to bring their flagship loco, 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' to the event.

The loco is no stranger to the MNR, having attended two previous summer events at the railway. The locomotive will make a fantastic partner for fellow LMS star, and former long-term Bressingham resident, 46100 'Royal Scot.'

The two LMS giants will be in service alongside 9466, making its first gala appearance since competition of its recent overhaul.

The MNR would like to thank:

Jon Brookes and Alleleys, Neil Powles and the Bodmin & Wenford Railway for the proposed visit of 4247.

Malcolm Baker and the PRCLT and West Coast Railways for their help in arranging the visit of 46233."
