MTR is to help design and commission the North Extension of Shenzhen Metro Longhua Line.

MTR Corporation (Shenzhen) Limited, which operates the line, has signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with the Longhua New District Administration Commission to advise and support the construction of the northern extension and light rail system in Longhua.

Chief executive of MTR Corporation Jay Walder said: “We are delighted to work with the Longhua authorities to explore opportunities for cooperation for metro development in the district.

“We look forward to being able to extend the safe, convenient and high-quality service of Longhua Line to serve more commuters in Shenzhen.”

MTR has operated the full line since 2011. With passenger numbers continuing to rise, MTR has begun converting four-car trains to 6-cars. Once complete, this programme will increase capacity on the line by 50 per cent.
