I'm currently on holiday near the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which is a lovely line in a national park with lots of tourists visiting for a week or two at a time. It got me thinking about why preserved lines don't offer multi-day rover tickets - eg: 3 days over a week or something like that? Surely this would get more repeat visitors and people may even use the trains as a genuine transport option, hopping on and off, especially for longer railways.
I know you can often buy part-line single or return tickets, but a multi-day pass would seem a simpler option. Perhaps it could even be connected with local bus companies or other attractions.
These kinds of passes are quite popular in Switzerland, for example: https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/top-of-europe-pass/

I'd be interested to know if any railways have considered this at all?

Great Little Trains of Wales Wanderer tickets offer the purchaser 20% off tickets over a 4 or 8 day period for £15, which strikes me as a pretty good deal if you planned on visiting multiple lines. I think arrangements are slightly different this year.

The SVR did flexi-rovers, where a passenger would buy x amount of days in a 7-day period and then the passenger could decide which days they would use it on-the-day. The first day would be full rate but the extra days would be reduced rate.

I’m off to the moors in august stopping in goathland and have thought the same as we would use the railway to visit places and leave the car behind

West Somerset Railway were doing this one year when we holidayed at Blue Anchor. £25 per person for a ticket valid for 5 (or was it 7?) days. We certainly got our money’s worth, even using the train to go into Minehead to buy groceries.

Bargain really, I think a day ticket there costs you that price now.

Some railways have offered them but seem to be generally that not much of a saving is made. If a day ticket was £18, two days should be £22 or £23 imo, not £33. Hardly gives an incentive to buy.

Isle of Man Transport GO tickets cover all the railways (including Groudle and Laxey Mines) and the buses for 1, 3, 5 & 7 days for 17, 34, 41 & 50 quid respectively. Children at 50%. The weekly ticket is incredibly good value as a round trip on the IMR to Port Erin is 13.40 and Snaefell is 16 quid return.
