I am in Sweden. I enjoyed a trip on a 1950s railbus over the 891mm gauge line from Hultsfred to Västervik (70 km), then a steam trip back over the last 11 km to Verkebäck and back with a delightful old SJ mogul of 1907 Nohab vintage.

Prices of accommodation and food fairly similar to Britain, beer more expensive!

I'm looking forward to travelling on this line next summer! If you're visiting eastern Sweden (south of Stockholm) then there are various possibilities for NG fans. Apart from the Västervik line, there's a 2 foot line near Åtvidaberg - the Risten Lakvik line, where the Maffei (former L&B Sid) is now based along with a Jung steam loco and several non-steam engines (including a compressed air one). There's also a 3 foot line running from Vadstena. Unfortunately, most Swedish heritage lines don't run after the high summer season, so as a new resident of Åtvidaberg, I'll have to wait until next summer to try them (though some visiting of stations has been going on!!).
At Linköping open-air museum (Gamla Linköping) there is a small railway museum, and short exhibition line.

Thanks, Felix, for sharing those photos. I love those wooden stations that are such a feature of the Scandinavian railway landscape; plus the countryside and the castle. Maybe in 2015 for me!

    Thanks John.

i do have a photo or two of the Maffei at Lakvik - I'll try and find them and add them to flickr.

    Cheers!
