The NVR will be kicking off the 50th anniversary of the end of Southern steam with an event featuring the first public runs of 92 Squadron and guest rebuilt BoB Sir Keith Park.

    Regular fares apply.

There will also be an exhibition at Ferry Meadows entitled Bulleids, Boat Trains and the Night Ferry.

Feel for NVR, think more people will be waiting for Swanage's gala with 5x Bulleids than see only 2.

But it will be the first public appearance of 34081 after overhaul and that will be a draw for the red pen brigade at least.

I think some died in the wool Bulleid fanatics may head to the Swanage, however I doubt there will be too much overlap bearing in mind the two railways are about 4 hours drive apart. There’s also the scale of the events, hiring in 4 locos means that a rover ticket for Swanage is £30 when bought on the day, whereas the Nene Valley, with just 1 hire in is only £16.

In terms of the events at the NVR this year, I understand the largest one will be in June, marking the Railway’s 40thanniversary in preservation, which has Royal Scot confirmed so far.

As Ian says, it's also the first public runs of 81 which will hopefully be a draw

If you're in to more than just trains, we've something up our sleeve that may just trump that. ;)

Sadly the brewery that used to donate ale to us for fund raising purposes has ceased brewing. :(

Just to bring update, Sir Keith Park has now arrived and I understand the BBLS have been busy fettling and cleaning their steed In preparation for the weekend.

It should be a good weekend hopefully!

Anyone know why 34081 did not double -head with 34053 on the last train of the day? I hope it didn't suffer any damage due to the rather rough shunt when it joined the train at Peterborough earlier.

She got low on water and one of the injectors kicked out. There was a problem with the water tank at Wansfprd so she couldn't top up and that's way she didn't do the d/h.

Hope everything's ok @Spamcan81 I'd just like to say I was rather impressed with 81 today, looked amazing (I'm now a convert to Southern light green!) and It sounded tight as a gnats chuff. Nice one and thankyou to all those who made today happen.

    Enjoyable day today :)

Hopefully the event has been a success for the railway. The trains seemed full for the majority of the day

Just out of interest what was the 0-6-0 having it's tank lifted back on again today in Wansford yard? Was it the infamous Newstead?
