Over the weekend of the 22nd/23rd Feb the Nene Valley will be holding our winter gala which will feature:

Standard 5 73050 (Running without nameplates) - Her last appearance before overhaul
    Black 5 45337
Further Class 5 to be announced

The event will also commemorate the final service on the line, 50 years on which was hauled by Black 5 44837.

Brake van rides will be operating on the Fletton Loop using one of the 'fives'.

    For more details see: http://www.nvr.org.uk/events/three-fives

I'll update the thread when the third five is announced.

Beat me to it. A shame they're not willing/able to source an alternative. I wonder how the event will fare in opposition to the GCR BR Standards event on the same dates.

The Churnet Valley also have a cracking line up that weekend with 34007, the steam rail motor, the S160, 69621 and the Beyer Peacock.

I don't really think that needs an answer. It's 2 effectively just home loco's running.

Mmm so basically just a standard two train service. Does the NVR have two Mark 1 rakes of coaches or will they need to use their foreign stock? I was going to come down to this line for the first visit in several years but given what is happening elsewhere, only two engines in steam and the promise of chalk nonsense on the smokebox of the Std 5 is adding up to not be a winner at the moment :(

One of the locos will be working the brake van shuttles on the Fletton Loop so I reckon on a one train service. A two train service would require the continental stock to be used.

They were advertising that only Mark 1 stock would be used ( before the announcement that the other Black 5 would not attend). I was considering making my first ever visit, but will wait until a timetable is published before making a decision.

The impression I got the NVR didn't make it clear that it was to be a Black 5, just a 5 locomotive so anything with that power classification would count. A real pity if it was 73129 for example. When was the last time two Standard 5's ran together?

There is of course a new standard locally. How does two 5's and a 9 sound?
I'd be there for that one.

Just the small matter of the 9 starring in an event at its home base on the same weekend.
