2 minutes agoNene Valley appeal for Wansford stationThe Nene Valley Railway has put out an urgent appeal for its members after it was offered a one-off opportunity to purchase Wansford’s original station building for £50,000.The NVR has already raised the purchase price for the 1840s building (the sale does not include the former goods yard behind it) and intends to make a Heritage Lottery application for its restoration. However, the building is in extremely poor condition internally and, although it enjoys the protection of listed status, it has been placed in the highest category of Huntingdon District Council’s Buildings at Risk Register. Some protective work will therefore need to begin immediately, which it has been estimated will cost up to £150,000 – and it is for this that the appeal for donations has been made.
