    hi all

What is the score with the NER bogie coach that is unrestored at beamish,
is it going to be restored as by the looks of things they have reinistated passenger operations, and it has proved successful,
could they have 2 coach trains or just one, and is the colliery line extension finished yet?
    also
with the 25mph limit on preserved lines how do the batteries get charged as they don't go fast enough for charging I think?
    Cheer

  3. Most railways charge there batteries up via a charger at night and use the dynamo for topping it up as it where i cant see why beamish dont do the same

I think some railways have also fitted larger belt wheels on Mk1 carriage dynamos so that they work faster at slower speeds.

Yes I am an active volunteer
With Wolverton dynamos and some Stones examples there's some electronic trickery that can be done to improve charging performance at low speeds - details on the SRPS C & W pages, I believe.

charging wise I wasn't on about beamish line is too short anyway
but what about other lines like severn valley, glos warks railway etc,

    back to beamish
they did a massive shunt there last week, using furness 20,
I would like them to pull the NER coach out and see if she can be restored or use 2 coaches, as tanfield have beamishs celestrory's one restored one not, would be nice to see them both at the 1913 station at beamish behind a loco
    any thoughts guys?

  8. At the KWVR the coaches are plugged in to the chargers every night in the carrige shed

Re the NER coach at Beamish, we have three in total: A restored clearestory (3071, currently incorrectly numbered 818) which is on loan to the Tanfield Railway and due back at Beamish for the start of next season, the unrestored elliptical roof coach referred to and a grounded body. There are no plans to restore either of the latter. Our push-pull arrangement, as determined in our safety management system, precludes multi-vehicle working and with the length of the line currently being so short one coach operation is perfectly sufficient. For those wanting to know more of what we do (so many assume curators do nothing all day!) then have a look at my blog at http://beamishtransport.blogspot.com or find it though the Beamish website. The colliery extension proceeds as and when at present. As we close at 5pm, and the railway will initially only run over our summer season (Easter to October), lighting is not a problem...

    thank's paul for the info,
I do watch the blog indeed, you must be a very busy bloke
will you be pressing ahead with the new shed behind the town for the locos?
I seem to like the idea personally of the shed being where the water pump is now, and having coaling stage there as well using a siding,
also with the main running line just been relaid and a cracking job it is - credit to you and team,
will you be relaying the actual station itself to make it all as one i.e. ballasted right through?
    any thoughts on that paul?
    cheers
    rob
