If you were a rich person, what class of replica diesel would you like to see built for preserved lines or the national network?

LMS 10000 for the mainline would be quite a sight!

Class 22, the largest class of diesel not to make it into preservation, for me, too.

It would be the Met-Camm Midland Pullman DMU for me, lets have some quality passenger stock back on the rails.

i was just trying to avoid some revision on gas turbines and started thinking about 18000. Is this still at Crewe or did it move to Didcot in the end? What are the plans for this? I can only think of 2 gas turbine rail vehicles in this country (18000 and the APT-E) so will it ever be refitted with a gas turbine unit? they are a lot more common these days so it shouldn't be so hard to find a suitable replacement unit, and the technology behind them is much better understood as well.

I believe 18000 was purchased by Pete Waterman back in the mid-1990's from the Vienna test station, i don't know if he still owns it? It came back to the UK as a shell (no internals). I must confess that i would like to see it run as built, but i don't think there is the will or the money to do this sadly. I wish Falcon could of been returned to the UK but that's another story.

It certainly is! - Falcon was scrapped at Cashmores, Newport, in 1976. Do you mean 'Kestrel'?

Does anyone know if there really is an NBL class 21/29 unit at a Manchester hospital and if so, which one? The NBL group might take on as a subsidiary.
The Co-Co Baby Deltic is genius- in two tone green who cares about a few more wheels- the noise will be there and it will 'look right'. Genius guys.

gas turbine 18000 probably couldnt run in this country now. its huge a good 9-10 inches higher than normal stock. when it was in the roundhouse at brrow hill it touched the smokehoods for the steam locos as its so tall. certainly wouldnt get through most platforms nowadays

I would build a replica of the GWR Diesel Railcar Twin Set, with Buffet in one of the 2 Cars, and a replica of the GWR Express Parcels car No 34 then you would have the whole set of GWR Diesel Railcars built in the 40's
No 20 on the K & ESR Railway dual ratio final drive box for either quick acceleration low speed, or slower acceleration high speed, for branch or main line work
No 22 at Didcot low ratio final drive box for high acceleration for branch work
    No 34 Parcels Car
No's 35 & 36 twin unit with large passenger accommodation in one car, buffet in the other car, dual ratio final drive box
All units capable of working in multiple

Of course that is a major pipe dream as you would have to find 6 AEC A182 Series Engines, and they are as rare a rocking horse droppings, failing that you would have to have the engines made
