New freight experience course will be available at the MHR some time this year. You can now take control of 31806 and a rake of wagons that have been restored by our wagon team from Medstead & Four Marks. The wagon team is going from strength to strength with Chris at the helm.

Ps I think this is a first in railway preservation?

Well done Chris & Wagon team.

Llangollen's been doing these for the past 3/4 years. However they also include operation of Glyndyfrdwy Signalbox as part of the course as well as the Guarding and Footplate.

Nice idea though, hopefully it works out for you guys as you do have a freight set to be proud of.

We've recently done a pick up goods type experience on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Not just a drive a rake of wagons about day but also includes some shunting at various points in the day to alter the formation of the train. By all accounts the participants had a really enjoyable day out. Good luck to the MHR venture, it's a good commercial justification for restoring rakes of wagons which are often a neglected part of preservation.

The West Somerset Railway does several different footplate experience courses using a freight train. One of these involves shunting and setting down/picking up wagons at intermediate stations en route.
