New artist impressions of Victoria station’s Metrolink stop have been released.

Work began on a revamped tram stop in February which will include additional platforms and tracks to meet the needs of the expanding network.

The project ties in with a £44 million redevelopment of Victoria station itself – the most striking element of which will be the new ETFE roof.

Peter Cushing, Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink director, said: “The project at Victoria is an incredibly important development, not just because we are transforming a major gateway into the city but because of the operational benefits it will bring.

“An expanded Victoria, together with the Second City Crossing, means we can run more trams on more tracks which, in turn, means more flexible services – all of which is essential given that we’re trebling the size of the network.

“So it’s great to see work under way, and I’m pleased with how well the challenging single-line service through the station has bedded in.”
