    Hi guys

For the last few years I've been shooting with a Nikon D40, and by and large, it's been a pretty bulletproof bit of kit, only let down occasionally by it's owners incompetence, it's one only real failing is it's rather limited in low light conditions, with a max ISO rating of 1600 and quite noticable graining about 800.

With this in mind im considering upgrading next year when I have a bit more dosh to play with, I'd like to stick to Nikon because the D40 has impressed me enough of the brand to stick with it, plus i'd like to retain my current lenses.

So im asking, is there any Nikon that has a much higher ISO rating but also minimal grain until pushing towards the maximum rating ? (sure I've seen some that are 3200 or even 6400), budget wise I don't really want to be going more than around £600 if possible as higher ISO is all im looking for really as otherwise im happy with the D40's performance.

I have seen some phot's taken in pitch dark at stations, where the shutter speed has been taken down to something like 1/125 but comes out ok because the subject is either very head on or moving slowly, would I be right in assuming these were probably quite near ISO 6400 ?.

I up graded earlier this year to a Nikon D7000, and certainly don't regret it - I LOVE IT!!!

Body only circa £800, and with the silly season almost upon us you may pick up a bargain - and keep an eye on this sight, which only lists stockists of UK stock - maybe even go for a trade in, you never know.

TBH I'm still getting to know the camera, but I'm more than happy with it - for stills photography it does what it says on the tin ignore the HD video a it'll chew both the battery and the memory card and oh, if you zoom back you pick up the noise from the lens motor..........................................................

if you want to know what it does - check this out ( his word is gospel........................)

Good luck with what ever you choose.

    Dave.
