Alstom has presented the first EIC Premium train to Polish operators PKP at a special ceremony in Italy.

PKP Intercity ordered 20 new Pendolino trains in 2009 to operate between Tricity and Katowice, via Warsaw and Krakow.

The new trains, which will begin revenue service in 2014, have a maximum operating speed of 250 km/h and will reduce the journey time between Warsaw and Krakow by an hour.

In August, the trains will begin testing on a section of track in Żmigród near Wrocław before carrying their first passengers the following year.

In May, the European Investment Bank (EIB) increased a loan supporting the rolling stock project by 118 million euros to 342 million euros.
