New station approved for Bromsgrove

Worcester County Council has approved plans for a replacement £17.4 million Bromsgrove station, to be built 250 metres to the south of the current station, with funding coming from the county council and Centro.

The current unstaffed station is, due to a road bridge at one end and freight loop at the other, unable to be extended to accommodate trains longer than three carriages and has limited access for disabled passengers.

Once open in 2015, the new station will have a staffed ticket office, be fully accessiable and have a 350-space car park.

Of the £17.4 million cost, £1.9 million is development costs, with the county council contributing £5.5 million. Construction will commence later this year.

Originally built with two platforms, the down side platform was removed in 1969, before being reinstated in 1990. Between these times the train service was very poor, as down trains had to cross over onto the up line before crossing back over onto the down line.
