Yes I am an active volunteer
Wednesday 7th October saw the arrival of two more items of stock from the Docklands Light Railway at Poplar:

Firstly a Ruston Shunter to compliment our existing two Rustons; one now working one and the other which is on static display at Ongar. Secondly a ballast hopper which will prove very useful in our ongoing trackwork. These vehicles were used for laying of the original DLR track from Stratford to Island Gardens and Tower Gateway. From then on the the DLR has grown reaching places like Beckton, Bank City Airport and recent extensions South of the River. With that has come the need to upgrade their equipment so making these vehicles surplus to their requirements.

The photos show the Ballast hopper being loaded at DLR Poplar depot, another view of the ballast hopper at Poplar with the maintenance shed in the background, Ruston Shunter being craned on to the low-loader at DLR Poplar and the Ruston being lowered on tracks at Ongar. Finally the blue Ruston towing the DLR Ruston at Ongar.

The DLR Ruston is identical to our Blue Ruston and has 4 cylinders. The engine is seized but our team of specialists, led by Mick Murray feel confident about having her running soon.

Thanks to the hard work put in by Doug, Mick, Barry, Alan and the rest of the Thursday team, Roger Wright and the Docklands Light Railway.
