The first of a fleet of new trams ordered by the Turkish city of Konya has entered revenue service.

A total of 60 28T light rail vehicles are being built for Konya, with the first arriving in the city in October 2013 following a seven-day journey from Škoda’s factory in Pilsen.

Dynamic testing has since been completed and the first vehicle is now in service.

Josef Bernard, chief executive of Škoda Transportation, said the company plans to deliver most of the 60 trams by the end of the year.

Konya’s new fleet of bi-directional trams are capable of carrying 364 passengers and will operate in five-car configurations.
