    There’s plenty of scope for a range of motive power and the varied line-up this year has proved popular with passengers and crews alike. At today’s Showcase Gala, Wissington rubbed shoulders with Betton Grange with trains worked by both being very well filled. 2-8-0s, whether 7F or 42XX shaped, were appreciated while the Class 31 and Class 25 worked trains individually and in tandem with similar success.

    Great day spent at the railway yesterday, see a photo of each locomotive in operation below. Having had a ride behind Betton Grange at the end of August the loco appears to be performing very well, makes a great sight and sound going up the banks. I see it is due to run again during half-term from the 26th, does @Spitfire or any one else know if there are any other running dates planned aside from then before 6880 goes to the Battlefield Line?

    David - 6880 is due a water change later this week and (subject to all the usual caveats) is then scheduled to run 22, 23 and 24 October plus half-term week Sat 26 Oct to Sun 3 November. By way of contrast, Wissington is expected to work the second set 28 October to 2 November!

    The rest of November is being finalised but there may be an opportunity for something special with 6880 before she departs.

    4843 was only done 5 years ago so the interior didn't receive any attention this time other than an LED lighting conversion, so the travelling experience won't have changed. However it was letting the side down externally big time so hopefully it now flies the flag again with pride!

    Quick question - what is the TE/haulage capacity of Wissington? Seems to be comfortable enough on the Quad-Art set - would that be lighter than say a 4-coach Mk1 set?

    Seeing them in traffic in October, they appeared both shorter and I strongly suspect lighter than Mk1s

    The wight of the Quad Arts was discussed a couple of pages back - see https://national-preservation.com/t...general-discussion.30601/page-88#post-2889729

    The wight given was 85 tons for the four carriages. To put that in context, Mark 1s are typically 33 - 39 tons, it depends a bit on which vehicle and also on what bogies they have. 35-37 tons would be a good ballpark figure - so four Quad Arts are about 2.5 Mark 1s in weight. (Same number of axles as well for rolling resistance ;) )

    Ah that makes sense, I wouldn’t expect to see a HC of that size on a 4-coach Mk1 set unassisted! Gorgeous little engine though
