Interesting times and routing from Timetables -
    Crewe 09.35 / 23.24
    Wilmslow 10.00 / 22.55
    Man Picc 10.29 / 22.25
    Warrington 11.13 / 21.42
    Chester 12.39 / 20.39
Lland Jnc 13.44 / 19.07 (water both directions)
    Holyhead 15.18 / 18.00
Photography on the return is going to get increasingly challenging at the season rolls on!

I think we had a thread already for this, but that wasn't used for a while so I dunno whether it matters.
Doesn't it show times for Stockport? It's supposed to stop there.

Sorry had a quick look back couldn't see a thread. I just dropped a few times for shortness, Stockport 10.15 / 22.41, booked to stop in both directions.

I notice from the timings there is no trip down the branch to Llandudno Town this year. I wonder if this could negate the need to have a diesel on the back. Given the time at Holyhead there seems no reason why the steam locomotive cannot shunt its own train as always used to be the case.

Sunday 10th Augist 2008, I think - 48151 on the rear of the ECS for the "15 Guinea Special" from Longsight to Liverpool.

    Thanks Malc.

6.05, that would seem likely, not having a diesel on the back reduces costs.

    Didn't 48151 go to Liverpool road with 70013 ?

Here's my pictures of the stock move, the 47 lead, with 8f+2pobs +70013 from Carnforth to Eccles, at Eccles the 47 went ecs to Longsight, 48151+70013 went to MOSI.
Next am 48151 rejoined the stock at Eccles before going to Liverpool

Actually, 48151 ran from Liverpool Rd, through Oxford Rd and Piccadilly, and attached to the rear of the ecs at Longsight, on the Down side. The ecs then ran (with 48151 on the rear) to Liverpool, via the CLC route, as there was block on the Chat Moss line.

Sun-rise at Piccadilly and not a soul around!

Thanks all for sorting that one out, but they were ecs, this time it's with passengers. I was wondering where to get a good video from on the high level section?

I was there when you came back through with the ECS and the 8F on the back (see attached rather poor quality photo).

Wish you'd stopped to give me a lift to Liverpool!

The first train from Manchester to Liverpool started from Oxford Road and wasn't due in to Lime Street until just after The 15 Guinea Special was due to depart. My plan was to see the 8F through Picc then catch a train to Oxford Road, thence to Liverpool and hope that either it was a bit early arriving and/or 1T57 was late departing, with a back-up plan of catching the RTC tour with 60009 from Liverpool to Holyhead*, which was due to depart a bit later, if I didn't make it onto 1T57. In the event, my train from Picc to Oxford Road was delayed and missed the Liverpool train, so I went out to Salford Crescent to see 70013 on its positioning move from Liverpool Road to Vic and then later paid my 150 Guineas to Mr Smith to join 1T57 at Vic.

    * 60009 later failed at Llandudno Junction, so I'm glad I didn't end up on that.

I'm booked on an NWCE in August, but now that it appears to be confirmed as going through Picc, I'll probably try to get on the first one on the 22nd as well in case it doesn't happen on the later ones.

the locomotive is a mystery to me as well. I believe based on the Railway Herald that the A4 is scheduled. If not ready what shall be in it's place?

Rule number one. Don't believe anything you read in the press.

If you are booked on this tour then all you have to do is telephone the tour operator, quote your booking number and they are sure to tell you the latest position as they understand it. Even if you are not booked on the tour but are thinking of booking they will usually tell you.

If the above does not apply what is the problem? One of the locos. that are available will haul the train.

60009 is nearly ready for its test runs, but until these take place, 70013 is the only available loco, as 46233 is ruled out by gauging issues near Frodsham.

70013 hauled both NWCEs in 2011, but 46201 and 46233 both ran through Frodsham in 2010.
