From January 3rd to February 10th our engineers take over the line between Bewdley and Kidderminster for essential winter maintenance work. This work includes renewal of drainage, repairs to Bewdley tunnel and track relaying. So here are a few numbers associated with this work which we thought may be of interest.
The track relaying, which comprises 25 track panels within the tunnel and 10 outside the tunnel, approximates to 2000 ft of railway and will use:

    70 rails
    910 sleepers
    1820 rail pads
3640 rail clips (of which 2600 will be sheradised for use within the tunnel)
    and 800 tons of ballast!
This picture shows one of the safety 'refuges' inside Bewdley tunnel. It looks as though Father Christmas may have passed this way recently ! ! !
