NVR Mail by Rail 5th & 6th Aug

Mail by Rail and Travelling Post Office mailbag exchanges are returning on 5th and 6th August.

The TPO will be hauled by 45041, undertaking two sets of TPO shuttles (6 exchanges in total).

The event also marks 60 years of the Great Train Robbery. Subject to it not being a washout, we are planning on removing the covers from M30272M, the LMS TPO which is the only surviving coach from the train, and the GNR TPO body, for display.

One of the other resident locos will also be operating the service train.

On the Saturday evening a Night Mail Pie and Postal Special, with the TPO's marshalled into the evening train. Motive power for this train is still TBC. Prebooking essential for the evening service.

In preparation for the event next weekend, we took the class 14 and TPO coaches out this evening for a training and testing session. These are the first mailbag exchanges that have taken place anywhere in the country since before Covid.

Thankfully, all worked as intended, and recruits from the last 4 years were able to get plenty of practice away from public gaze!
