The line up for the NYMR's 10 day gala to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the opening of the Whitby - Pickering Railway has now bee nannounced. The gala, which will run from 29th April -8th May will feature the following locomotives (usual caveats):

    Rocket (replica)
    Planet (replica)
    AB 0-6-0ST Salmon
    44767, 44871, 45212, 45407 & 45428
    49395
    60007
    63395
    69023
    71000
    76079
    80072
    92214
Cl 24 D5061 and the 3 car DMU will also feature as representative of 1960's motive power.
825 & 6619 are also expected to be available and may be used.

It is expected that 8-9 locos will be in use each day - the maximum sensible number - and these will change throughout the gala. All five Black 5's will be in use on at least one day. Other planned attractions will include the usual Esk Valley line trains on Sundays and at least one evening, freight trains and shuttles using the smaller locos.
Day rover tickets start at £20. Multi-day tickets are available at discounted prices with a full 10 day ticket being £175.

More details available on the NYMR website: http://www.nymr.co.uk

Blimey, certainly wasn't expecting that! Will it be doing a proper turn (presumably not full line services but maybe Pickering to Levisham or Grosmont to Goathland shuttles?) or will it be station pilot etc?

Diagrams and timetables were planned to be finished this afternoon and then distributed to those who need it for checking over the weekend. 80072 will run as the 3 Standard 4s delivered new to Whitby over the course of the event.

The Timetable has been prepared by the same team and process as used for the very well received S & D event last October.

As well as showing steam locomotive develoment over the time the Whitby and Pickering line has existed (of course, for its first 9 years, it was horse drawn!), it had been hoped that the line up would feature both the "first" express locos and the last two express steam loco built for service on Britain;s Railways. With 60163 out of the picture, we still aim to have the last express loco built for daily service on Britain's railways, alongside its distant ancestors Rocket and Planet.

So what's the horse's name then?
Will it be doing brake van trips in the yard?
or just stabled in the carpark?

I've seen a couple of ads saying five Black fives will be working on the Friday, does anyone know which of the two Fridays?

    Is it both Fridays??

When will it be known which sets/locos will allocated to each service?

    Regards

Unfortunately Salmon has pulled out of the event. But there's always the 40th anniversary of the NYMR in 2013!

When will the timetables be updated to show which days the diesels will be running between Grosmont and Pickering? I need to know because of the need to book a B&B.

    Regards

    I doubt it.

Still waiting for the "buy online" programme to become available.

Leaving it very late; with 2 short weeks before the event; to get them posted out to those who buy online.

Hope it doesn't follow the LNER 2008 Spring Gala when they never appeared until the gala had started.

    Perhaps Steven will know?

Is it out of date yet with regard locos running(or not)?
Hopefully a roster of which locos running each day will be put on the website in advance, for those with no interest in out of date glossy brochures.

    Cheers Steven

D7076; you should know by now that NYMR doesn't issue rosters in advance unless you pay for them.

I have "banged on about it" in the past; but to no avail so just accept it as a matter of fact now.

I know for the diesel gala last September; you could buy the roster online and updates were emailed to you prior to the event.

Not sure if this option will be available as well as the brochure?

    Cheers

    Andrew

Was it last October the same process was applied to the Steam gala? I remember paying online then been sent a PDF link where I could download the timetable from. I thought it was a great way of dealing with the situation.

Is that a positive or negative response?

Positive... I thought it was a great way of getting the information out to people. I hope a similar process can be applied to the Spring Gala?
