According to Heritage Railway 34007 Wadebridge is coming up from Mid Hants to appear alongside 53809, 92214 and 45428 to give the gala an S&D flavour. Hopefully this is true. Well worth attending if it is 1st 3rd October

It also looks like 34070 will be attending after the SVR gala, subject to the usual caveats. I'm almost sorry that I'm going to Stirling behind 6233 (but then again, how many tours other than multiple-day binges go north of the border?)! So there should definitely be an S&DJR flavour if they put 53809 on the front!

    Autumn Steam Gala

The Somerset & Dorset comes to Yorkshire!

    1-3rd October 2010

    Introduction

Finding ourselves with 2 ‘genuine’ former Somerset & Dorset based locos (S & D 7F 2-8-0 No 53809, and 9F No 92214, which was shedded at Bath Green Park immediately after entering service), we have decide to change geography and ‘Bring Somerset & Dorset to Yorkshire’, with an S & D theme to our Autumn Gala. Star visitors are expected to be Unrebuilt West Country No 34007 Wadebridge from the Mid-Hants Railway, and 34070 Manston from the Swanage Railway.

In complete contrast, the Gala will also feature North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group’s recently overhauled J72 0-6-0t No 69023 Joem, very much part of NYMR’s heritage, but not seen on the line for some years.

Apart from 53809 and 92214, the home based fleet will include at least two LMS Class 5s including freshly overhauled 45428 Eric Treacy, and No 45212 (expected back in traffic after re-tyring and other work which has kept the loco out of service all summer) and 44871.

Two other locos out of traffic for boiler repairs over the summer should also be working – S15 4-6-0 No 825 and the NRM’s Super D 0-8-0. Less certain is A4 4-6-2 No 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, currently being re-tubed, but we remain hopeful. Completing the line up will be ‘Schools’ 4-4-0 No 30926 Repton, Standard Class 4 2-6-0 No 76079, and NER Q6 0-8-0 No 63395..

After the locomotive availability problems that plagued the Spring Gala, we are determined to put on a spectacular show with the Autumn Gala to restore confidence among our loyal supporters. I believe the programme we have lined up will achieve just that. Among the programme of events will be an early morning session of freight train run bys for photographers, plus other freight and shuttle train operations.

The usual posters seem to have missed recent updates so I'll bump it to the top, again as it is getting much closer. The gala timetable is now available to download at:
    http://www.nymr.co.uk/special-events/autumn-steam-gala/
Following all the problems with steam locos this year I'm not prepared to speculate on what will be running but I reckon there's a good chance of twelve locos being available over the three days.

I see that Wadebridge wont be attending....due to "unseen circumstances"......

    Wonder what they could be.....

I can find 8 out of original 14 at present, but it could be higher nearer the time.

    Should be an excellent gala.

    69023, 44871, 34070, 92214, 45428, 825, 49395, 63395 = 8

    53809, 76079, 45212 on steam test

    60007= TBC

    30926 out for repairs

    34007 not attending

    Best Regards

I wonder if a replacement loco will be sourced for Wadebridge, 44422 or 73050 would be nice :)

How about a nice powerful industrial? Twizell? :D Ok, you couldn't get much further from the S&D, but it'd still be entertaining!

Two problems for the NYMR in trying to bring in guest locos are that:
    a) Some loco owners are afraid of sending their locos to the Railway and decline to do so.
    b) Some locos offered are found upon examination to not be fit for use on the NYMR although perhaps adequate for pottering around elsewhere.

Really looking forward to this event. Does anyone know if the loco allocations will be available in advance?

    Regards,

    Matt.

Crew rosters show eleven locos out over the weekend, subject to all the usual caveats. If anyone is around on the Friday, come and say hello. The present theory is I'm on the Q6 (63395).

To start the ball rolling as it were for this gala, timetable wise, let me plug the fact that on Friday 1st October we are running a photographic opportunity for photographers, for which a donation of £10 will be requested. This will begin at Goathland at 08:00 and will last roughly 1 hour utilising the freight train and 2 locomotives. 53809 will be on the south end of the train and 45428 on the north end. What is proposed is a series of runpasts at a couple of locations. The plan is that any photographers wishing to participate in this be at Goathland station at 07:45 where, after paying their donation, will be informed of the locations involved and will be escorted to the location by a member of railway staff (probably me and another member of staff). This is a first for the NYMR and we hope for a good turn out, hopefully raising some additional funds for the railway and future locomotive overhauls. If this works then hopefully it will become a regular feature of future NYMR gala weekends, so we'd like a good turn out. The details of the locations are being kept secret at the moment to hopefully prevent people just showing up and expecting to take picture without contributing.

As for the locomotive allocations you'll be able to find information regarding those on monday all being well. Suffice to say theres some double heading, some top and tailing, some loco changes on the freight (now running all 3 days, no shuttles), some piloting and wherever possible S&D combinations. Plus possibly the smallest engine double heading with the biggest!!!!

All being well this is shaping up to being a great event and hopefully will attract a big turnout. Fingers crossed.

For those who wish to know which locos are running which days at the Gala, this is planned to be:

    Friday: 34070, 44871, 45212, 45428, 53809, 63395, 69023, 76079 and 92214

    Saturday: 825, 34070, 44871, 45212, 45428, 49395, 53809, 63395, 69023, 76079 and 92214

    Sunday: 825, 34070, 44871 (Whitby – Battersby), 45212, 45428 (Grosmont to Battersby), 49395, 53809, 63395, 69023, 76079 and 92214

Full loco rosters will be available on the day for a donation to the Bridges and Wheels Appeal, specifically for the more rapid restoration of 80135. Keep an eye on the website for possible chance to buy and download in advance.

All subject to availability – we have a daily requirement for 3 locos all week prior to the event, so plenty can happen!

Will be excellent if they are available via the website, perfect for people who live some distance away. Can anyone confirm the current directions the locos face?
