We are pleased to confirm that LNER A4 "Bittern" will be hauling two Vintage Trains steam railtours and will appear at the Tyseley Locomotive Works Autumn Open Day on Sunday, 26th October.

"Bittern" is a sister locomotive to"Mallard" which still holds the worldwide steam record of 125.88 mph set on Stoke Bank on 3rd July 1938. “Mallard”is now preserved and on display at the National Railway Museum.

"Bittern" is a record-breaking locomotive in her own right; achieving a sustained 90mph run over the East Coast Mainline in 2013. This is officially the fasted speed for a steam locomotive in preservation.

We hope to see you on one or more of our steam excursions in the near future.

    Sincerely

    Ben Mason - VT

We are hoping to be able to steam 6201 "Princess Elizabeth" at the Tyseley Open Day on 26th October..... Lots of room for jokes about naked princesses as the boiler casing will not be in place....

It is dependent on an inspection later this week.

A couple if images from this morning in the yard. "Bittern" is still cooling down from Saturdays run up the Lickey and a naked "Lizzie" is in light steam for an exam.

Both will be in steam on Sunday for the Open Day. "Bittern" will be on the passenger shuttles later in the day.

I spent a most enjoyable couple of hours on Sunday afternoon at the Tyseley Open Day. It was good to see Princess Elizabeth in steam and almost ready for action again. Highlight, of course, was A4 Pacific 4464 Bittern operating the shuttle service.

My photos - and a mini vid - are here....
