Does anyone have any experience with upgrading old Triang coaches to modern wheels? I've done everything that has wheels with the 'clip in' pinpoint bearings, but what to do with the very old stock that has rounded end axles with 'open' axleboxes? My DMU is like this, for example. Also some more recent Hornby stock has the 'chrome' wheels that have tyres that tend to work loose - these also have round end axles but in closed axleboxes.

Have you tried 'top hat' bearings.

I've tried the Peco nylon bearings, but they're too big and I can't see how I would be able to enlarge the hole and keep it correctly centered. Also, has anyone a good method for getting the old wheels out without breaking anything? (I've tried a couple of scrap coaches with sometimes alarming results!)
