From a practical standpoint I have a question, concern about the locomotives firebox. Was the glow normal or was it the ashpan? We don't want a repeat of September 2nd, 2011. Someone in the Devonian thread in "The what's going on" section initially asked the question. I have seen fireboxes glow at night before so it would not surprise me if this is just one of her characteristics.

Thanks for anyone who knows her better than me,
    Mike

I have just had a look at the Britannia's ashpan drawing. It has three front damper doors, one between the frames and one either side on the outside of the frames. What you are seeing is the glow through one of the open damper doors. No doubt, the ashpan is fitted with spark arresting equipment.

So the ashpan is working properly and this question can be taken off the concerns list? If so many people shall be relieved.

No one but yourself put it on the 'concerns list' (should such a thing exist). Please do not go imagining problems that do not exist.

I think it maybe my video you are talking about, the last shot at Rewe.

I was asking if it was normal to see that. I was not, and hope nobody thinks I was, casting aspersions on 70013. The fact that the light had almost gone probably made it more obvious.

After looking at at the film posted by 'Western Venturer' above I can understand why the OP was concerned, but I think you're right.

    Regards
