With the last Harry Potter film in the making I've been pondering what will happen to 5972's maroon livery ie will it stay or will it go?
I'd prefer it in BR or GWR livery but in maroon she will in all probability keep a unique 'star factor'

I'd be suprised if shes anything other Maroon even for a few years after HP filming ceases, not a great concern as there's usually 2 or 3 authentic liveried Halls out there.

I think it should stay as it is. It may not be accurate for its working life with GWR but it is accurate for its working life in preservation.

Personally I think some people need a colour chart test!

    Leander and Lizzie are maroon

    Olton Hall is very red

Surely it will all depend on what Warner Bros. want? They have been fiercely protective of the copyright in the past.

As the last Harry Potter will not be out until next year or maybe later still, I would have thought the Hogwarts Castle would last for a while to be used in publicity work.

If keeping it red helps Mr Smith's balance sheet it will stay red!

Some people seen to forget that WCR is run as a business NOT a hobby. As long as people (and Warner Bros) will pay to see Hogwarts (hmmm) "Castle" then it will stay that way until there is a financial reason to do otherwise.

As said above, there are several Halls both on the mainline and on preserved railways in various authentic liveries.

My Daughter loved seeing it in Hogwarts livery! She told me the green engines looked boring. I had words with her later and threatened to send her to grandma's for a month, but it's her opinion and many daughters like her that control our checkbooks.

I thought I read that the last book had been split into two films because of the length of the book, if so this may keep it in red longer if more filming is required. Harold.

If you have not read the book you may not know that the Hogwats Express appears in book 7 only at the end. So there may not be much actual filming required if they keep to the same story line as the book.

If the filming is carried out in sequence then it will be the last bit done on location at Kings Cross.

    Regards,
