On May 24th the Olympic torch travelled to Worcestershire as part of it's 8000 mile journey around Great Britain. During the afternoon the torch arrived at Bewdley station for a journey on one of our trains. Carried by a local Kidderminster athlete, Chris Stokes, the torch was carried on the footplate of 'Manor' class locomotive No. 7812, Erlestoke Manor from Bewdley to Kidderminster. As part of the visit the train stopped next to West Midland Safari Park for a 'photocall' with the resident elephants before continuing its journey to Kidderminster where the train was met by huge crowds. Our picture shows (from left to right) Chris Stokes - torchbearer, Mark Garnier MP, Nick Paul - SVR Chairman & John Penrose - Minister for Tourism & Heritage, on the platform at Bewdley station prior to the departure of the 'Worcestershire Express'.
