Folks, just a few pics to update you on teh progress off Braveheart's overhaul at the Churston Workshop on teh P.D.S.R.

Almost one side off the Frames has been rubbed down and primed, along with the cab side and a start has also been made on needle-gunning the bunker.

The brakes have had a serious overhaul, they were not good on the tender in service, epecially the hand-brake. This was later revealed to be due to the brake shaft being seized solid. We are thinking off revising the greasing system to stop this from happening again. All the relative brake linkage has also been removed, cleaned & inspected and painted and is now awaiting re-fitting when the rubbing down and dusty work is completed.

Work is likely slow right down over the winter due to 7827 coming up for an intermediate overhaul and work on 4277 also pencilled in.

sorry, pics won't seem to upload. Honestly, anything that doesn't run on coal is just so frustratingly useless...

I had trouble uploading some pictures on to the forum recently, the trouble was the fact they were too large. I reduced the size with Windows paint & they uploaded ok.

You should set up a Fotopic site instead so much easier and just post a link, saves space on the forum too

Well folks considering we've made some substantial progress, thought i'd update this thread considering a few people have pm'd me regarding her.

The engine was turned last year, with the tender now residing the KGWR end off churston workshop. The Brake system has been completely overhauled, but will not be put back on untill after the wheels have been removed and the tyres turned. The bunker has had a considerable amount off patching due to thinning plate and the tank was completely cleaned. The Frames have been cleaned, rubbed down and repainted in gloss. The tender tank sides were rubbed down, but are currently in undercoat and will not be painted untill the rest off the engine is.

The Loco frames are now sat on jacks, the wheels were removed for the bogie and driving wheels to be turned. The bogie is now substantially complete. However, the frames require considerable more work. They are currently being completely cleaned and repainted, with only the front inside section to recieve undercoat before the whole lot is glossed. There was some considerable amount off welding to do on the rear drag box and a few rivets to change on the mid stretcher frame. All 6 axleboxes are currently being tried in the horns to make sure there not loose before they're all remetalled. There is excessive play in the crossheads that needs attention, along with a new piston rod that needs to be made.

The boiler is about to started at crewe, with substantial work required to bring it back to life.

The "expected" return to steam is 2013/2014.
