The first station to be built in Oxfordshire for 80 years is to open in summer 2015 on a new route connecting Oxford with London Marylebone.

Oxford Parkway, which will be located adjacent to Water Eaton park close to the A34 and A44, will allow passengers to access main line rail services without travelling into the city centre.

The new service is a key part of an £87 million project to connect Oxford with London Marylebone by building a new spur line between Bicester and Oxford – a line which will also serve the western section of the East West Rail link to Bedford and Milton Keynes.

Rob Brighouse, managing director at Chiltern Railways, said: “Oxford Parkway will transform travel between Oxford and London when it launches in summer 2015.

“Our new station and service will provide significant economic, social and environmental benefits for people in Oxfordshire.”

The new line between Oxford and London Marylebone is planned to launch from Oxford Parkway in summer 2015 with services to London Marylebone in just under an hour and from Oxford city centre in Spring 2016.
