Parcels vans at Oxford

    There are two parcels vans in an old bay at Oxford station. One looks like a BG, the other a 4 wheeler of some kind. Both are in BR blue.

    What's the history of the pair? Why have they been parked up, presumably redundant, there?

    They have been there for a very long time. The first time I can rember seeing them was in about 1980. I though they were used for storage.
    There are quite a few vehicles laying about the system that nobody is sure who owns them. Network Rail did a thing a couple of years back to try, and find new uses for redundent rolling stock. They claimed the credit for moving Pulman Car Doris from Finsbury Park to the Bluebell.

    How about the myriad of Overhead maintenace carriages... whilst many are Mark1's I seem to recall there were many that were converted LMS coaches.

    Are these still around, apart from a flat roof, there complete, dont know about the interiors, but as LMS coaches... got to be good candidates for a railway wanting to build an LMS rake someday ?

    Some years agothe LNERCA dismantled a flat-roofed Gresley ex OHLM coach for spares. Having seen the way the replacement roof was constructed (it took about theree months to cut it off!) I don't think that taking it off and refitting an arched roof would have been a practical proposition! I doubt if there are any OHLM trains with LMS coaches left now, so it is probably a bit academic.
