STIF and RATP are to spend €256 million automating line 14 of the Paris Metro by 2020.

The first automated services are expected to operate on the 12.1-kilometre route within the next six years.

Syndicat Transport Ile de France (STIF), the transport authority for the Paris region, and operator RATP have agreed to jointly fund the project which will see MP89 and MP05 trainsets cascaded from line 14 to line 4.

Line 4 runs north-south through the city, connecting Porte de Clignancourt and Mairie de Montrouge. It is the second busiest metro line in the capital.

STIF has also announced plans to purchase 15 new Dualis tram-trains from Alstom for the commissioning of a new Express Tram North project in 2017 – a new tram-train service between North Epinay and Bourget.
