Passengers injured in Warsaw Inspiro fire

Siemens has said it is supporting investigators looking into a fire that broke out on one of its Inspiro metro trains yesterday (November 17) injuring several passengers.

The manufacturer said four people who had been taken to hospital as “a precautionary measure” had now been released.

Operator Warsaw Metro announced earlier today that it had appointed an accident investigation committee, which includes experts from the Warsaw University of Technology, to determine the cause of the fire at the Politechnika subway station.

All five Inspiro trains have been taken out of service until the investigation is complete.

In a statement, Siemens said it “is currently examining the incident while fully supporting the operator in its search for the cause.”

Siemens signed a contract with Warsaw Metro in February 2011 and is currently building the remaining 30 six-car trains of the order.

The first trains of the €272 million order entered service last month on Line 1 and were celebrated as first Inspiro model trains to enter service anywhere in the world.
