As a 12 year old in 1977 (possibly March of that year), I remember being on the school sports field as 'Pendennis Castle' passed through Keighley light engine during the morning. The remarkable thing was that the games teacher (a real ogre!!) allowed us all to pause our game of football and watch her pass through! I know that it was around this time that 4079 began her journey to Oz, I just wonder if anyone could verify the date that I saw her (I seem to remember it being a Monday).

    Regards

    Andrew.

    4079 in 1977

In March 1977 the boiler off 4079 was being repaired in Warrington and left for Carnforth on 14th April.

On Friday 27th May 1977 she left Carnforth with two coaches, a blue and grey BSK, or similar plus Bill McAlpines Great Eastern saloon GE1, travelling via Settle Jc and Sheffield to Birmingham. I presume Tyseley and two days later worked her final railtour from Birmingham to Didcot and return.

Sorry it wasn't a Monday but can confirm it passed through Keighley at a guess late morning/lunchtime. I photographed it leaving Carnforth and chased it across to Giggleswick, getting four seperate spots before heading down to Sheffield to get her leaving.

    Cheers
