    A few things to note in this area of your control Panel.

    If you want to receive emails when someone reply's to a post of yours make sure you have Default Thread Subscription Mode set to either.
    Instant, Daily or Weekly.

    Within the Private Messaging area. On the same page.
    you may choose to set the following to On or Off

    Enable Private Messaging
    Receive Private Messages only from Contacts and Moderators
    Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages
    Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up
    Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default

    There is lots more on this page to control exactly how you want the forum to interact with you.
