Pete Waterman To Host RailStaff Awards

Pop impresario and rail way entrepreneur,Pete Waterman, is to host the rapidly growing RailStaff Awards this coming October. The Awards scheme aims to celebrate the triumphs and success of the people who actually deliver the railway day-after-day, night-by-night. ‘I am delighted to welcome Pete Waterman aboard,’ says Tom O’Connor, director, Rail Media Group, which publishes RailStaff and is organising the awards. ‘He is one of the greatest song writers of our time, of any time, but we in the rail industry have never forgotten that he started his working life as a locomotive fireman.’ Pete Waterman went on to built a successful career as a disc jockey and music writer. Songs by Pete Waterman have been responsible for 22 number one hits in Britain. Despite the pressures of the rock business Mr Waterman has never forgotten railways and remains a firm supporter. He is chairman of the London & North Western Railway Co. Ltd. founded in 1993. Based in Crewe LNWR offers repair and maintenance services for commercial train companies. Says Tom, ‘The RailStaff Awards may not have a category for Fireman of the Year but it is completely in keeping with the spirit of the award that former fireman-turned-rail-company-chairman should host the first major celebration of railway staff achievement this year at Birmingham.’
