On behalf of the Swindon & Cricklade Railway I am pleased to present a photo charter with GWR 0-6-0PT No. 4612 hauling a short goods train.

The Severn Valley, or North York Moors this isn't. But the Swindon & Cricklade Railway is the only surviving part of the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway. And, rather appropriately, runs to the northern outskirts of the GWR's Swindon birthplace.

This, the first ever photographic charter at this railway is booked to capitalise on the visit of four guest engines to the S&CR's GWR175 gala on 12-19 June. 4612 is one of these, courtesy of the Bodmin & Wenford Railway, and is very likely to be the last visit to a railway other than the BWR prior to expiry of the loco's 10-year boiler ticket.

Stock will consist of a short all-GWR freight made up of a 3-plank open, 5-plank open and 'Toad'. The open wagons are in appropriate GWR grey livery, matching very nicely the GWR green livery of 4612.

The total running line is just over a mile in length so locations will be reached on foot following the train. It is intended that a few lineside locations which will be used (most only achievable on a charter), together with runpasts at both Blunsdon and Hayes Knoll stations. The entire length of the line will be available for this charter, including the southern extension. There is capacity in the 'Toad' for photographer's equipment such as step ladders to be conveyed between locations.

Below are several links to photos I have taken to show some of the locations which will be used during the charter. Also, the railway's website contains relevant details for those who have not visited the line before:

A selection of photos, some including the visit of 6435 during 2009:

It is likely that GWR 'Mogul' No. 5322 and GWR 2-6-2T No. 5542 will be available to view at Hayes Knoll, and there may be the opportunity to arrange to shunt 5542 with the Auto coach to an appropriate place so that passing shots with 4612 could be made possible.

Numbers are limited due to restricted space at several locations, so early booking is recommended. Places will only be confirmed upon receipt of a completed booking form and cheque.

Please PM me for full details, or more information, and joining instructions/booking form.
