PKP Intercity has placed an order with a Stadler/Newag consortium for 20 new trains worth around 350 million euro.

PKP has specified that the new EMUs have a minimum speed of 160km/h and will be delivered by October 2015.

The combined purchase and maintenance vehicles has been valued at around 1.5 billion zł (350 million euro).

Some of the funding has been put forward by the European Union’s Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.

The new trains will run on busy intercity routes, including Warsaw – Krakow and Gdynia – Katowice.
