Press Release - Locomotive No.3 Is Coming Home

Discussion in 'On Track.' started by Karen Willans, Dec 11, 2014.

After nearly two years away from Tywyn, Talyllyn Railway locomotive No.3 Sir Haydn will be returning home in February 2015.

However, before it does so it will be making one more public appearance at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham between 17 and 22 February 2015. The exhibition centre is becoming a familiar place for Talyllyn locomotives with Locomotive No.1 Talyllyn being present for the National Model Railway exhibition there last November.

No.3 will be a main attraction at the show to promote tourism to the mid-Wales coast area of south Snowdonia, known as ‘Cadair Country’. This is named after the famous Cadair Idris peak which lies at the heart of the region featuring some of the most glorious unspoilt scenery in the area.

For the past eighteen months No.3 has been at ‘The Engine House’ at Highley on the Severn Valley Railway, after a successful tour across the country taking in the Great Central Railway and Midland Railway, Butterley. This also included trips up and down both the Severn Valley and West Somerset Railways on a standard gauge wagon.

The ‘Sir Haydn Appeal’ has been established for donations towards the overhaul of the Loughborough built steam locomotive and has raised almost £25,000 so far.

Ellis Jacklin, the Railway’s Publicity Officer said:

‘We are very grateful to the Severn Valley Railway for looking after No.3 so well over the past months, but now it is time for it to come home for its much needed overhaul. In addition, the opportunity for No.3 to make one more appearance before its return to Wales was too good to miss.’
