A railway-loving dad had his last wish granted when his ashes were blasted through the chimney of a steam engine.

Two hundred and fifty friends of David Champion, 39, climbed on to train 97096 on the Mid Hants Railway to say goodbye.

Widow Vanessa, 36, a South West trains ticket inspector, said: "We put him in the firebox at the point he wanted between Alton, Four Marks and Medstead and the driver blew his whistle and we gave three cheers."

David, dad to James, 12, and Marc, 10, died from cancer in July, shortly after marrying in hospital.
