Mystery surrounds the identity of a man who was killed when he was struck by a train at a Hampshire railway station.

The man, who is thought to be aged between 18 and 30, was hit by a train approaching Bedhampton Station on the afternoon of 13 May.

British Transport Police have been unable to identify the man and are appealing for anyone who may know him to contact them.

The man had bought a return ticket from Barnham, Sussex, to Portsmouth Harbour. He was wearing a blue top with the word Boston on it, a pale pair of Reebok tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Sgt Andy Pavitt said despite following several leads, police had been unable to identify the man.

"We know he was a smoker, as he was seen smoking a cigarette prior to the incident. Due to his age, there must be someone who is getting concerned. Perhaps he was not from the area and had travelled down from London or elsewhere in the UK to visit friends."

The death is not being treated as suspicious.
