Oswestry’s link to the national rail network could be re-established through an innovative scheme to introduce railcars on the redundant line towards Gobowen.

Talks on track to bring back train services

Oswestry’s ambitious project to see trains running through the town after four decades is on track to take a major step forward in the next few weeks, the county council has said.

Shropshire County Council says its negotiations with Railtrack over the sale of the line that runs from Gobowen to Llynclys junction are progressing well and could be finalised next month.

Meanwhile, a decision on the organisation that will be asked to be responsible for the running of a railway on the line, could be made at the end of this month.

The dream of trains running again on the line has been one of many Oswestry rail enthusiasts for years. The line was closed in the 1960s by Dr Beeching.
