A County Durham railway museum is launching a national appeal for donations of wagon plates.
Locomotion, the National Railway Museum in Shildon, wants to set up a definitive collection as part of its "Pride in Our Past" project.

The museum is seeking wagon plates from the earliest days of Shildon Wagon Works to 1985 when it closed.

Donations can be sent in or taken to Locomotion from Monday and the appeal will run until 17 April.

Prizes will be offered for the most unusual or the oldest wagon plate sent in.

The museum, which is opened in partnership with the existing National Railway Museum in York, is based at the first departure point for the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825.
