Rail schemes backed for £40m transport fund

Upgrade projects for the West Anglia and Lea Valley lines are in for a share of a £40 million transport fund after receiving backing from the London Enterprise Panel (LEP).

A number of road and rail projects have been picked out by the LEP for their significance to the capital’s economic development.

Projects include £25 million of improvements to allow more services to run from Angel Road and Northumberland Park stations via Tottenham Hale and a re-opened Lea Bridge station to Stratford.

With the LEP’s support, the proposals can now move to the next stage of development.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Transport links are a vital precursor to economic development. This money is earmarked for investment into transport schemes which have significant potential to stimulate growth and job creation.”

Improvements will include work at Angel Road, Northumberland Road and new track between Lea Bridge station and Angel Road.

These schemes form part of a £72 million West Anglia upgrade programme, with £44 million and £3 million already put forward by Network Rail and TfL respectively.
