Spending £1.6m on the redevelopment of the Manx Electric Railway (MER) is an important investment, the Isle of Man tourism and leisure minister has said.

Adrian Earnshaw MHK was granted the extra funding during a sitting of Tynwald on Tuesday. The money will be used to replace more than three miles (4.8km) of track, including the priority sections of Douglas to Laxey and Laxey to Ramsey. Mr Earnshaw said the MER was an important island tourist attraction.
